Operário Ferroviário Esporte Clube or more commonly known as Operário Ferroviário, is a Brazilian Football team that competes in the National Série B and the State Championship Campeonato Paranaense. Situated in the city of Ponta Grossa, one of the largest cities in the state of Paraná with a population of more than 300,000, is also to be considered as the cradle of football in Paraná, holding the first official football game in state history back in 1909. Currently Operário Ferroviário compete in the second tier of Brazilian Football but in recent years the club has made a resurgence through the domestic competitions. Winning both the Brasileiro Série D (2017) and Série C (2018) titles in consecutive years. Since the club’s reintroduction to Série B, Operário Ferroviário has delivered solid performances, reaching as high as 8th in 2020-21.
The club was founded on May 1, 1912, making Operário Ferroviário the second oldest club in the state of Paraná behind only Coritiba Foot Ball Club. Since its inception the club name has been changed several times and not until 1933 was the definitive name given. The club uniform has not been significantly modified since 1912, paying homage to the original strip, which in turn pays tribute to the white and black races of the early Operário Ferroviário years.
Since 1941 Operário Ferroviário have played their home games at the atmospheric Estádio Germano Krüger. Located in the South of Ponta Grossa the stadium has a capacity of nearly 11,000 people. The stadium is named after Germano Krüger who was the club president at the time but also a certified engineer who helped in the design process. Estádio Germano Krüger modest capacity compared to other stadiums in the region is not to be taken for granted as the majority of Operário Ferroviário home matches are packed with some of the most vibrant fans in the south of Brazil. The passionate crowed is always amongst the best in average attendance and season ticket sales within the many competitions of Brazilian football.
With the 2022 Série B campaign to get underway in mid-April, Operário Ferroviário will be aiming to build on their strong mid-table finishes in previous years and aim for the top 4 promotion places. The new winter signings of Centre-Back Thales and Attacking Midfielder Javier Reina, along with the reliable up-front duo of Paulo Sergio and Shumacher.
